It all started with a thing called iTunes...
So for the past month I have not been getting any translation during church services. This was my decision, there are so few people that meet at the church on Sunday mornings. So I felt the translation was just so distracting to everyone else. So I told them I could deal without it. Well of coarse I still have no idea what is being said. I mean I catch a couple of words here and there, but when the service is over I am definitely not recharged and ready to serve. I am still a blank slate, ready to be written on. (Yeah that phrase might not work right, sorry) Well my dear friends Kaci and Ryan told me how they get there church services from back home sent to them and they listen to them before they go to church. When I heard them say this it was a light bulb moment (Ah ha). Well since my home church in Nashville is only recorded with a really old tape recorder, that which I hear gets knocked off half way through I decided to go for another plan.
On iTunes they have a thing called Podcast. You can download all sorts of different recorded segments. Like news events, how to's, and oh yeah church services. Well I found out that Rob Bell's home church Mars Hill had a few different ones to choose from so I checked them out. I downloaded a whole segment called "How to Pray like Jesus". I started the first service on Sunday while I was getting ready for church. Sidenote- I was also able to find live worhip podcast's as well so now I have got the whole picture. How Cool hu?
I was unable to finish the service on Sunday. So for the last two days while I was eating breakfast before work I listened to the pastor. Yesterday I just became amazed how God could speak so strongly to me through and ipod. Well he did. Like I said the service was about how we should pray like Jesus. Today as I listened and ate my frosted flakes in the darkness of my kitchen I heard the pastor talk about how it was ok to pray about the little things. He talked about how no matter what it was pray about it, never give up or think you cant pray about something. ALWAYS PRAY. Well as I walked down the street to catch the fergone (Van) to take me to the kindergarten, I prayed that God would be with the 15 minute drive to Gorre. That he would keep all the passengers safe, and that somehow God would use me.
Another sidenote - Since I have been here I really havent felt like I have just gone out there into the city and shared with people my faith. It is a little more difficult then I imagined. Because of not knowing the language you hit a pretty big wall every day.
Well today I went and sat down in the far back of the fergone. Then another girl came in and sat in the front passenger seat. She turned around and said "Mere Mengjes! (Good Morning)" which of coarse I said goodmorning back to her. She then turned around again and said a long sentence to me in Albanian. I didnt understand one word of it. So I kindly told her that I only knew very little Albanian. Then She asked me in english if I wated to come up front and sit with her. I quickly got up from my seat and joined her upfront. Throughout the ride we made small talk about where we worked and lived. How her father in law lives in the bronx. About 5 minutes before my stop was coming up she tells me that she really wants to know english better, and asks me if I could help her. I agreed with probably way to much excitment, and told her that I would love too! She then gave me her number, and we agreed that we would go have coffee sometime and just talk in English.
HOW COOL IS THAT FRIENDS!!!! I could not believe how God opened up that oppurtunity. I dont know anything if she is a christain or not, but I am so excited to be able to befriend an Albanian and show them God's love.
So thanks to itunes for letting the mars hill pastor put on the podcast his sermons that opened me up to a whole new meaning of prayer. God is there, and im so glad to be right there with him.
Pray for this girl, I would love to tell you her name but I cant even pronounce it myself. Once I get to know her better, I will let you know. But for now heres to the girl in the fergone...
